LIMA, Carolina Palmeiro; GIORDANI, Jaqueline Portella  and  TRENTINI, Clarissa Marceli. Association between childhood adversities and pathological personality in adults. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2021, vol.73, n.3, pp.157-171. ISSN 1809-5267.  https://doi.org/10.36482/1809-5267.arbp2021v73i3p.157-171.

Childhood adversities are risk factors for a number of negative outcomes in adulthood, including personality disorders. The main objective of the study was to examine the relationship between the cumulative adversity score and the potential indicatives for personality disorders in the total sample and per group with low/moderate risk of stress and with high risk of stress according to events experienced in the last year. 507 people from 18 to 59 years old (M = 30.5 years, SD = 10.4) participated. It was found association between the cumulative adversity score and the potential indicative for personality disorders, with the largest effect size found in the group with high risk of stress. The cumulative adversity score seems to be an indicator of risk for personality pathologies. The need of preventive actions and identification of childhood adversities is discussed for implementation of interventions.
