KNIJNIK, Jorge Dorfman and CRUZ, Lívia Oliveira. Amazon of the seven seas: the bodily image of some brazilian female sufers. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2010, vol.2, n.2, pp.55-74. ISSN 2175-2591.
Surf is a type of sport practiced in an environment where the body reveals itself, and where there is a strong presence of the "perfect body" myth. Surfers interact with the environment when they practice the sport, becoming a part of it. The sport is nowadays considered one of the most practiced in Brazil. The goal of this study was to research the Brazilian female surfer's body. Two instruments of analysis were used: the "Human Figure Test" and the image of the human figure. The conclusion is that the bodily image is a source of concern to most of these athletes. Female surfers who live on the coast are more comfortable with their own bodies than the ones who live in the state capital. The thesis provides evidence that the smallbody model does not represent the desire of female surf athletes.
