Abstract

VIANNA, Monica  and  VILHENA, Junia de. Beyond nine months: a reflection on eating disorders during pregnancy and puerperium. Trivium [online]. 2016, vol.8, n.1, pp.96-109. ISSN 2176-4891.  https://doi.org/10.18379/2176-4891.2016v1p.96.

This paper discusses the eating disorders that may occur during the pregnancy puerperal period, taking into account the impact that the bodily element has in the constitution of the psychic apparatus. The possible causes and consequences that such disorders have upon the psyche of a pregnant woman are analyzed in the light of psychoanalytic theory. Starting from the assumption that pregnancy is a time of significant change in a woman's physical, psychic and social representations, the authors suggest that the deepest levels of maternal psyche and bodily memory are activated in the dynamic psychic of a pregnant woman.
