Abstract
HERRMANN, Leda. Times in psychoanalysis: a psychopathological viewpoint. J. psicanal. [online]. 2011, vol.44, n.81, pp.85-96. ISSN 0103-5835.
This paper puts forward a written clinical exercise, in accordance with Fabio Herrmann’s definitions of the times in psychoanalysis: namely long, medium and short times. According to the Multiple Fields Theory, such times, conceived as musical times, occur simultaneously throughout the analytical process. The long time is that of patient’s and his analysis’ history. The medium time is that of the psychoanalytic relation and of transferential care. The short time is that of psychoanalytic technique, of the understandings and misunderstandings that are characteristic of analytical dialogue. According to the Multiple Fields Theory, these times constitute the specific form of psychoanalytic psychopathology, conceived as an interpretative psychopathologic thought, that was inaugurated by Freud, not a descriptive or classificatory nosography.
