Participants included 73 patients that were admitted to the acute services of the Psychiatric Hospital of Havana, given that depression is a symptom in a significant amount of the patients with schizophrenia, 35.6% of the patients presented clinically significant symptoms, and these were related significantly with unemployment, the separation of loved ones and a greater number of re-hospitalizations. It is important to consider depression and its causes to develop effective treatment strategies.
