Abstract

LIMA, Julia Coutinho Costa. Subjectivity in Winnicott's theory: internality, externality and the transitional space. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2011, vol.45, n.2, pp.119-126. ISSN 0486-641X.

The present study aimed to discuss the strategies of localization of subjectivity. Its objective was to analyze the ways of localization of subjective life which were developed in D. Winnicott's psychoanalytic theory. To such an end, this piece focused on the ideas of internality and externality in the construction of subjectivities, as well as highlighting the contribution that the concept of transitional space brought to this field. This led to the analysis of some comprehension matrices for the relationship between internal and external, and for Winnicott's notion of space. Among these, the notions of internality as privacy were highlighted in the discussion; the constitutive idea of space as a limit was pointed out and, finally, the idea of space without limits was addressed, and would have been more attuned with an interactional concept of space, or space of continuity.

Keywords : subjectivity; transitional space; Winnicott.
