Abstract
PORCHAT, Patricia. Elements to reflect on the psychoanalytic work with families that "come out of the closet". Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2017, vol.51, n.2, pp.103-116. ISSN 0486-641X.
Families, in which one member of the couple is a trans person (transsexual, transvestite, or transgender), introduce new challenges to psychoanalytic theory and practice. We bring up some issues raised by this different configuration of family, such as setting forth what is family to psychoanalysis and its practitioners, or even about an existing ethical and political commitment in order to help this family in keeping resistance to dominant rules. We also suggest that psychoanalysts should be culturally prepared to face these challenges, by knowing fields that are close enough to psychoanalysis and may support analysts in their endeavor. We present concepts and perspectives of work in order to help in approaching these families, either with children or with adults. We bring up, for example, concepts of family romance and primary scene as well as the discussion about what is kinship and parenthood. Finally, we discuss a clinical situation which allows us to reflect on our proposals for this study.
