The partnership SMED-SPPA between the Board of Education of Porto Alegre (SMED) and the Psychoanalytic Society of Porto Alegre (SPPA) has played an active role for more than twelve years to provide and apply psychoanalytic knowledge towards the continuing education of early childhood educators. The inter-institutional and interdisciplinary Research Group, resulting from that partnership, studies the interactions between educators, pedagogical advisors, and psychoanalysts in those groups. In eight-meetings cycles, the groups discuss procedurally serious problems, experienced daily by the educators. Examples of topics discussed are the extreme violence in the communities where their schools are located, as well as child abuse, among others. In this article, we discuss the impact of the Conversation Circles SMED-SPPA for all participants: educators, pedagogical advisors, and psychoanalysts, and we articulate traumatic situations experienced in the classroom by the educators that attended these meetings.
