Abstract
ROCHA, Ana Paula Brandão. Psychoanalysis in times of pandemic: what can the psychoanalyst do?. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2020, vol.54, n.2, pp.59-72. ISSN 0486-641X.
Humanity is forever seeking progress and happiness, constantly balancing between certainties and uncertainties. Setbacks and advances alternate as in a self-regulatory mechanism. Besides, challenges are imposed, greater or lesser, and of all kinds. The pandemic that plagues many countries in the first half of 2020 is making human beings seek, in addition to treatment and vaccines, new ways of behaving and being in the world. This process has been painful, as it includes many losses. The losses are also visible, both in the world economy and in the psychic economy. The pandemic and its consequences - fear, death, grief, social isolation and confinement - have created a demand for resources that can restore mental health and well-being. How psychoanalysis can contribute and what the psychoanalyst can do is what we intend to analyze, together with the readers, in this article.
