Abstract

SILVA, Gustavo Vieira da; LIMA, Andrea de Alvarenga  and  BARBOSA, Nadja Nara. The concepts of true self and false self: reflections based on a case study. Cad. psicanal. [online]. 2014, vol.36, n.30, pp.113-127. ISSN 1413-6295.

Based on a clinical history, this paper presents some reflections on Winnicott's concepts of true self and false self. First, the relations between environmental failures in early emotional development, psycho-somatic disorder and false self are discussed. Then, the place of true self throughout the treatment in its association to the sense of 'feeling real' is considered. At last, some questions are raised regarding the clinical value of the concepts of true self and false self.

Keywords : True self; false self; psyche-soma; Winnicott.
