Abstract

ZILBERLEIB, Carlota Maria Oswald Vieira. Therapeutic accompaniment and the borderline object relations. Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.18, pp.53-66. ISSN 1415-1138.

In this study, we articulate the elements which comprehend the meta-psychological basis for the functioning, according to Andre Green, of borderline patient vis-à-vis the therapeutic accompaniment clinic. In order to achieve this, a study case is presented, with specific focus geared towards certain dimensions of the object relations, namely the relations with the “absolutely necessary object”. Our interest emerged from the impasses arisen during the therapeutic accompaniment clinic and the problematic specificities of this kind of setting. It comprehends a theory development around the primary defense mechanisms, which means the denying mechanisms - Verdrangung, Verneinung, Verleugnung and Verwerfung -, created by Freud, and rethought by Andre Green, which he called “denying work”.

Keywords : Therapeutic accompaniment; Object relations; Denying work; Borderline; Setting.
