Abstract

BRAGA, Maria da Graça Reis  and  AMAZONAS, Maria Cristina Lopes de Almeida. Assisted reproduction and the process of becoming a person. Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2006, vol.10, n.19, pp.129-148. ISSN 1415-1138.

In this article, the authors propose a reflection on the process of becoming a person, in case of children, facing the context of the latest assisted reproduction technologies. To reach this aim, this reflection is based on the lectures of Donald W. Winnicott about the first relationship between parents and children, making some links with the processes of pregnancy, birth and primary relationships, in the contemporaneous context of the new biotechnologies. It also discusses variable conditions and consequences of being a mother and becoming a person in these new situations.

Keywords : Winnicott; Assisted reproduction; Mother and baby relationship; Subjectivity; Safra.
