Abstract

MAYA, Acyr. What do analysts think about homosexuality?. Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.21, pp.85-104. ISSN 1415-1138.

We analyze the meaning that the psychoanalytical notion of homosexuality has for the analysts that belong to the Brazilian Society of Psychoanalysis of Rio de Janeiro (SBPRJ), as reflected in papers of its members. It has been observed that most analysts maintain a discourse committed with the medical cure ideal, where homosexuality is being considered a deviation from heterosexuality. Only two analysts approach homosexuality to the subject desire, without clearly stating it in these terms. Some analysts have recently organized an event to re-think the notion of homosexuality as distinct and apart from pathology.

Keywords : Homosexuality; Transmission; Prejudice; Ethics of psychoanalysis; Desire.
