Abstract

SBANO, Valmir. The notion of "Beyond" in Lacan’s 5th Seminar: between the symbolic and the real. Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2008, vol.12, n.23. ISSN 1415-1138.

This essay discusses the articulation between the symbolic and the real around Lacan’s treatment of ‘wit’ in his 5th seminar. He introduces the dimensions of falling and that of reduction as well as those of finitude and satisfaction: thus returning, under the form of desire, to the minuscule and partial dimensions of the drive concept. The symbolic submit the subject to infinitude, to a displacement, to the opening, turning to be the witness of structure of every demand. However, the desiring accomplishment in wit, as a drive motion, shows us that the symbolic and desiring opening is not a definitive encounter, but it is in principle its opening. The present reading is also presented by consideration of Lacan’s Graph of Desire.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis; Wit; Lacan; Symbolic; Graph of desire.
