Abstract

EFFGEM, Virginia; CANAL, Cláudia Patrocínio Pedroza; MISSAWA, Daniela Dadalto Ambrozine  and  ROSSETTI, Claudia Broetto. The vision of health professionals on ADHD- diagnostic process and treatment practices. Constr. psicopedag. [online]. 2017, vol.25, n.26, pp.34-45. ISSN 1415-6954.

The Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a serious mental health problem, requiring a multidisciplinary approach in diagnosis and treatment. The conception of health professionals about ADHD, and their knowledge of evaluation practices and intervention in the disorder have been investigated. Eight health professionals, two from each area: Psychology, Medicine, Speech Therapy and Physiotherapy, took part in the process. It was created a semi-structured interview guide to investigate the understanding of disorder, the conceptualization of ADHD, and the knowledge of diagnostic practices and treatment for ADHD as well. Following the proposal of Piaget's Clinical Method, the responses were divided into three categories, Disorder, ADHD, and Practices, with the creation of subcategories for the last two of them. The data indicated a better understanding of ADHD by psychologists and doctors. In general, the participants highlighted the importance of the interdisciplinary team in the diagnostic process and treatment in cases of ADHD.
