Abstract

The massificated violence from brazilians against japaneses. Psicol inf. [online]. 2010, vol.14, n.14, pp.122-138. ISSN 1415-8809.

This paper deals with an episode of Brazilian collective violence against Japaneses, which occurred in July 1946, in the city of Osvaldo Cruz. Different groups of Brazilians have persecuted and hunted the Japaneses in the streets of this city as if they were animals. Some Brazilians have asked for a mass lynchment and many of them have used physical and moral aggressions and humiliations against the Japanese. This episode neither deserved emphasis in the History of the Japanese Immigration at Brazil nor has been considered as research interest for historians, psychologists, sociologists, among others. This study proposes to develop a psychoanalytical interpretation of this episode based in Sigmund Freud’s mass psychology.

Keywords : mass psychology; brazilians against japaneses; japanese immigration; psychoanalysis.
