Abstract

This Intensive Care Unit is a service that gives care to the patients presenter serious clinical instability, and complication treatment’s for survive and improvement patients health. These place exposes the patient to the difficult emotional situations and is necessary especial attention. The sickening a complicate time for a person and this family dynamic. The multidisciplinary health team is an essential support regarding both the physical and emotional aspects. An intensive care situation exposes doctors, patient and patient’s family to emotionally difficult stances, which may reflect on a less than optimal health care delivery. The São Paulo Hospital Mental Health in the Intensive Care Unit Program focusing on doctors, patient and patient’s family aims at showing doctors the impact of both the good handling of emotional stress and the psycho-social orientation delivered to the patient’s family on patient recovery. Having doctors discussing the issue and helping them to improve their communications and emotional skills, are the main activities developed by UNIFESP Mental Health in the Intensive Care Unit Program.
