Hospitalization is a distressing event for children, as they face an unknown environment, experience painful procedures, and deal with modifications in their routines and family relationships. Therefore, it is possible that the suffering caused by hospitalization provokes changes in children's emotions, thoughts and behaviors. Given this scenario, the use of ludic resources contributes significantly to the child's pre-surgical coping process. The present study aims to indicate the feelings of the hospitalized children in relation to the pre-surgical situation, as well as the changes in their thoughts, behaviors and daily life during hospitalization, and to discuss the contribution of specific resources to this scenario. Through the data collection by semi-structured interviews and the game Baralho Infantil da Hospitalização (Children's Hospitalization Deck), it was found that the children initially indicated negative feelings during the interview, however, when they later expressed themselves through the ludic resource, they denoted positive emotions and thoughts. This perspective was possible only because the ludic resource allowed the child to express what they were feeling in the hospital, as well as resignify feelings and improve the patient's well-being to face the surgical procedure.
