Abstract
MANDELBAUM, Belinda Piltcher Haber. Between the other and the same: on ethics and violence in relations. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2013, vol.13, n.26, pp.15-23. ISSN 1519-549X.
The author presents some contributions of Psychoanalysis for the debate around the themes of otherness and recognition. She starts from the concepts of transference and identification, as defined by Freud, to think about the processes of constitution of oneself and the other. These processes are also considered taking into account Winnicott's proposition that the notion of oneself and the other is established with the baby's perception of the mother as someone separated from him/her; and Melanie Klein's considerations on the psychic work that is stimulated by the ambivalence of affects mobilized in the relation to the other. She finishes with Levinas' consideration that the other is, by definition, someone that escapes from our knowledge and who makes a demand upon us that is not to know, but to take responsibility for him/her. This is an ethical demand that is necessary for the conviviality among plurality, which is for Hannah Arendt a condition for political life.
