Abstract

This article analyses similar phenomena in two moments of our history: The relation of violence suffered by homeless population and a garbage dump, near to the Guandu River, in the Baixada Fluminense, in Rio de Janeiro, in the sixties, when preparations were made for the visit of Queen Elisabeth and the real estate value of the place and the wave of banishment to which homeless population are submitted, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in preparation of mega events, such as the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016. The analysis is also made how in a city known as 'marvelous', certain groups of people are treated with disdain by public authority, and how these lifes, situations as the ones of homeless population, have no value when the topic is to gain lots of money for the State.
