Abstract
JUNQUEIRA, Rogério Diniz. The invention of the "gender ideology": the emergence of a political-discursive scenario and the elaboration of an antigender reactionary rhetoric. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.43, pp.449-502. ISSN 1519-549X.
This article seeks to explore the genesis of the syntagma "gender ideology" through the analysis of ecclesiastical documents and texts by religious and lay authors, considering the studies in the field of social sciences and Gender Studies. It seeks to track a process of emergence of a political-discursive scenario in which sectors of the Holy See and her historical allies led to the elaboration of an anti-gender rhetoric. Within it this syntagma emerged and obtained centrality in a project of power that seeks to reaffirm the status of moral authority of religious institutions and safeguard their socio-political influence. In the wake of this process, the public scene of dozens of countries has been occupied by movements that seek to draw on the moral order mobilizing capability, the naturalization of gender relations, the rejection of feminist critique and sexual rights, and the promotion of moral panic as well. In the name of defense of the "natural family", they attack gender equality policies and guarantees of nondiscrimination, and other fundamental rights.
