Abstract
URPIA, Ana. Defending an embodied and positional notion of gender subjectivity. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.48, pp.385-401. ISSN 2175-1390.
There are at least two views on gender in the field offeminist studies. According to the first one, gender is opposed to sex, and refers to subjectivity and socially constructed behavior, not to the body in its materiality; as to the second one, gender refers to any social construction, including those that separate 'female' bodies from 'male' bodies. Although the latter seems predominant, contemporary feminists have argued that something important can be lost, considering the discursive-semiotic emphasis of this view, in the light of which body is subsumed in gender: the material and bodily location of the subjects is lost. The present paper, by presenting, in the view of the field offeminist studies, some theoretical elaborations around the processes of gender subjectivation, proposes to (a) highlight the status that body and semiosis assume in these processes and (b) indicate, as an alternative to the emptying of the subject of any materiality, an embodied and positional notion of gender subjectivity.
