Abstract

SANTOS, MATHEUS RIOS SILVA  and  DANTAS, CANDIDA MARIA BEZERRA. The national movement of homeless population in the brazilian northeast: considerations on organization and strengthening. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2023, vol.23, n.58, pp.574-591.  Epub July 08, 2024. ISSN 2175-1390.

The collective actions of social movements are mediated by leaders through dialogue with their bases, through the situational understanding of the sociopolitical scenario and the possibility of building public policies for vulnerable populations. With the emergence of the National Homeless Population Movement (MNPR) in 2005, the sociopolitical formation of the homeless population became a topic of scientific interest. Therefore, the objective of this work was to understand the leadership training process and their performance in the MNPR in the Brazilian Northeast from 2019 to 2021. We used semi-structured interviews and participant observation in MNPR activities. In this article, we present one of the dimensions of strengthening that demonstrates how the actions of leaders in the region are guided by the recovery of the historical memory of the social struggle, mainly influenced by the signs defended by Maria Lúcia Santos.
