Abstract

LONDONO, Nora Helena et al. Psychometric properties and validation of the Modified Copying Strategies Scale (Css-R) in a colombian sample. Univ. Psychol. [online]. 2006, vol.5, n.2, pp.327-350. ISSN 1657-9267.

Chorot and Sadin’s (1993) Coping Strategies Scale (CSS-R) version was modified and its psychometric properties and structural validity identified. By convenience, the sample was chosen from college students and the active workforce. A total of 893 people participated (47.7% women and 55.3% men) with ages ranging from 16 to 58 and an average age of 25. Exploratory factor analysis of the questionnaire was made, regrouping the items into 12 factors which represented 58% of the variance. The problem solving factor showed the highest variance (12.5%) followed by social support, hope, religion, emotional avoidance, professional support, aggressive reaction, cognitive avoidance, positive reevaluation, expression of the coping difficulty, denial and autonomy. Cronbach Alpha: 0.847.

Keywords : Coping; Stress; Validity; Factor Analysis; Scale.
