Abstract

PIRES, Jeferson Gervasio; NUNES, Maiana Farias Oliveira; DEMARZO, Marcelo Marcos Piva  and  NUNES, Carlos Henrique Sancineto da Silva. Instruments for assessing the construct mindfulness: A review. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.3, pp.329-338. ISSN 1677-0471.

There has been a growing interest from researchers on the mindfulness phenomenon, however, its definition still not convergent among these researchers, which affects various aspects of its measurement instruments. With the objective of mapping such instruments, this review presents the psychometric properties of eight measurements of mindfulness, retrieved from four international reviews of the literature. In order to describe the measurements, we stated the operationalization of construct, their evidence of validity, reliability, and cross-cultural adaptation studies. Five different models for explaining the construct, composed of different quantities of factors (from one to five), were identified. Each of the eight measurements presented evidence of construct and convergent validity. Most instruments used test-retest for verifying reliability. Moreover, four of the instruments analyzed have already published adaptation studies for a Brazilian population. It is suggested that research on mindfulness be extended, given that there are few studies found nationally
