This study presents a review of the current instruments used to screen for and assess schizophrenia. A search was conducted in the SciELO, PePSIC, LILACS and BVS-Psi databases to identify studies published in Portuguese between 2010 and 2020. The results showed a large number of instruments that can be used for the psychological assessment of schizophrenia, especially the Rorschach test and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale. Most of the included instruments focused on assessing the quality of life of schizophrenic patients, family members, and caregivers. These findings can help in the planning of psychological assessments focusing on schizophrenia. It is emphasized that assessments instruments should be selected based on adequacy for the objective, construct, public, and assessment context.
