Abstract

ROSA, Lúcia Cristina dos Santos. Inclusion of the family in therapeutical projects of mental health services. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2005, vol.11, n.18, pp.205-218. ISSN 1677-1168.

This article discusses the inclusion of the family in therapeutical projects of mental health services. For such, it starts from the analysis of social workers’ daily routine in psychiatric assistance, in "Centros de Atenção Psicossocial - CAPS" (Centres for Psychosocial Assistance) and mental hospitals, characterized by their work with low-income families in the State of Piauí. One notices that women are the main target in the approach to the family. The analysis is based on the assumption that changes in the assistance pattern impose the design of new relations between the family, mental health services and its professionals. Potentialities, limits and risks implied in the approach to those families’ social groups are pointed out. The analysis indicates the need to develop new practices to strengthen the project participants’ condition as subjects.

Keywords : Family; Psychiatric assistance; Therapeutical project.
