Abstract

TELES CARNEIRO, Virgínia; TULIO CALDAS, Marcus  and  ROCHA SAMPAIO, Sônia Maria. The tacit knowledge and supervision in the training of psychologists. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2011, vol.17, n.1, pp.146-160. ISSN 1677-1168.

This article discusses how tacit knowledge can be valued during supervision on psychologists training. The notion of tacit knowledge used is based on the studies of Michael Polanyi, a Hungarian philosopher and scientist. Starting with ideas of Gestalt Psychology to understand the dimension of pre-reflexive knowledge, Polanyi investigates tacit knowledge. The above mentioned knowledge develops itself from the direct experience and is incorporated to the affective, cognitive and motor capabilities however, find difficulties to be communicated through verbalization. The overvaluation of knowledge on theoretical level, disconnected with the practice during the training of psychologists, is questioned. The supervision being the specific context where the psychology student reflects over their own practice through narrative becomes a privileged occasion for investigation and intervention on the tacit knowledge. Also it creates a good environment for a mutual conversion between tacit and explicit knowledge
