Abstract

AVILA, Lazslo Antonio. The group mind: a model for representing. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2005, vol.6, n.1, pp.18-26. ISSN 1677-2970.

In this paper we propose an use of the Cambridge model for mental symptoms, adapted for the analysis of psychosomatic symptoms, as a model for representing the groupal phenomena, known as “group mind”. After presenting the Cambridge model, we look for the W. R. Bion’s concepts, mainly the ones of protothoughts and protomental system, in order to justify and to give foundation to this proposal of conceptual representation. We end with some examples of group psychotherapy practice, from the viewpoint of this representation of the “group mind”.
