Abstract

TERZIS, Antonios et al. A theoretical revision regarding the interpretation applied to groups. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2007, vol.8, n.2, pp.00-00. ISSN 1677-2970.

This work presents a theoretical revision regarding the main instrument of psychoanalysis: interpretation. We begin with the classical Freudian definition, the objective of which is to make the unconscious conscious, cover some aspects of the historical evolution of the technique, enriched by subsequent questioning and discoveries, and present its application in the group framework. In this framework, the presence of other members stands out as the main differential factor, because they become “others” who respond, opine, advise, and, therefore, also interpret. Thus, in the group, interpretation is not the exclusive prerogative of the group therapist. It can be concluded that interpretation is replete with subtle aspects that alter and define its effects, and are deserving of greater attention and observation. Deeper study of this technique will allow the range and efficacy of group therapies to be developed.

Keywords : Psychoanalysis; Interpretation; Group psychotherapy.
