Abstract

MEDEIROS, Ana Paula; MISHIMA-GOMES, Fernanda Kimie Tavares; SILVA, Leandro Soares da  and  BARBIERI, Valéria. "Who assumes the role of the father?": discussion on marriage separation. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.1, pp.68-78. ISSN 1677-2970.

The literature emphasizes the importance of the family for the child's emotional development. This work aims to demonstrate how psychotherapy may be sought to diminish parental responsibilities. The mother sought psychotherapy claiming that the eight-year-old child suffered the father absence after their divorce. It was noticed that the child tried to take the father’s role, with early maturation. The mother felt as the only person responsible for raising the child. The attempt was that the therapist could share the responsibilities with her, so that she would feel less guilty for any harm to her son. It is needed the family finds a father figure. Further studies should be conducted to further the discussion.

Keywords : Family; Psychotherapy; Child development; Marital separation.
