Abstract

NEIVA, Katia Maria Costa. End of university studies: effects of the work market constraints on the professional future representation and setting up of students post-university projects. Psicol. USP [online]. 1996, vol.7, n.1-2, pp.203-224. ISSN 1678-5177.

The present study refers to the psychogical effects provoked by work market constraints on brazilian students finishing university studies. Its compares professional future representation and post-university projects of 263 students from two distinct groups: those preparing themselves for professions having a lot of opportunities in the work market (GMTB and those preparing themselves for professions having few opportunities (GMTF). As supposed, GMTF’s students, compared with GMTB’s, estimated less job offers to their professions and fewer chances of working in it just after graduation. They also estimated less probability of accomplishing the first post-university project, foresseing more difficulties in achieving it and believing more in the possibility of changing it. Nevertheless, these students presented some non expected attitudes: they showed themselves more decided about the post-university projects and the future professional activity and they made more plans of working immediately. We concluded that, in spite of the fact that the GMTF’s students have a more pessimistc professional future representation than GMTB’s, they presented positive attitudes that could help them face more easily the work market constraints.
