Abstract

PINHEIRO, Luana Bezerra  and  DINIZ, Raquel Farias. Housing Styles in Permaculture and Person-Environment Interactions. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.2, pp.666-686.  Epub May 03, 2024. ISSN 1808-4281.  https://doi.org/10.12957/epp.2022.68643.

The ecological crisis has given rise to alternative movements away from the hegemonic pattern of human-nature relationships of the capitalism. Permaculture arises with the proposal of linking the human need for housing to the need for renewal of ecological systems. It is aiming at a set of effective, deliberate, and anticipated actions with the goal to reduce impacts and be environmentally friendly. The lifestyle in permaculture thus involves a pro-ecological housing experience focused on sustainability. In this study, we seek to investigate experiences of person-environment interactions from the perspective of people who adhere to this lifestyle. Using the Grounded Theory, the construction of the corpus took place via semistructured interviews with 10 participants, selected by peer review. In the analyses, three categories emerged: the sociospatiality in permacultural environments; the permacultural routine; the permacultural spaces. The results showed a deeper understanding of housing, whose socio-spatial dimension considers cohabiting ecosystems. The specificities of the routine in this style of housing and management of permaculture systems were identified. It also highlights the challenges, strangeness, and resistance regarding the forms of bioconstruction and structuring of spaces in permaculture. Finally, participants see themselves as inspirations, providing deep and inspiring experiences to bring up environmental care.
