Abstract

SCRIBEL, Maria do Céu; SANA, Maria Regina  and  DI BENEDETTO, Angela Maria. Schemas in the structure of conjugal blonds. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2007, vol.3, n.2. ISSN 1808-5687.

Marital conflicts are configured as strong sources of individual stress, evidencing the relevance of developing more studies in the area of couple therapy as a field for the application of cognitive-behavioral therapies. Along this line of thought, this article intends to contribute to a better understanding of conjugality. It approaches affective relationship based on Young’s Schema Therapy, focusing on how premature schemes function to determine partner choice as well as affective link construction. The classification of schemes suggested by Young, in their respective domains, is applied to the marital field and is illustrated by some examples of maladaptative relationship responses, providing an insight of how childhood originated patterns can lead and determine people’s way of thinking, feeling and acting in their present relationships. This study leaded us to a model designed to understand marital conflicts based on the cognitive schemes approach and to a conclusion that each partner’s schemes are interlaced in what we called “Premature Schema Conjunction”. Thus, the focus of our therapeutic work falls into the reconstruction of those maladaptative cognitive schemes that generate conflicting relationships in the couples’ life
