Cancer is a disease that can cause organic, subjective and social effects; therefore it is an issue in the interface between knowledge and biological, psychological and sociological practices. Despite the emphasis on biomedical aspects in the approach regarding the subject who has cancer, the subjective aspects mark the vicissitudes of disease and therapy. This article discusses the subjective and social implications of mouth cancer, emphasizing the building up of the subject and the social under the light of psychoanalysis and its borders with medicine and sociology. It focuses on the subjective connotations of the face and mouth in relation to the concepts of scheme and unconscious image of the body, contextualizing the aesthetic demands in the current civilization where the body is the catalytic scene of the unique and social experiences. The conclusion drawn is that the organic failures require subjective rectification that ratifies the importance of psychoanalytic listening of the senses built by the subject when having the disease, making interventions that are not limited to the body-organism possible.
