Abstract

SILVA, Jorge Luiz da; OLIVEIRA, Wanderlei Abadio de; BAZON, Marina Rezende  and  CECILIO, Sálua. Bullying in the classroom: teachers' perception and intervention. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2013, vol.65, n.1, pp.121-137. ISSN 1809-5267.

This study's objective was to verify whether 6th grade teachers identify and how they intervene in bullying situations occurring in the classroom. Data were collected through a questionnaire along with the critical incident technique and interpreted through content analysis. The results indicate that the participants had a fragmented understanding of the phenomenon and a lack of knowledge affected their ability to identify and intervene in students' aggressions. Additionally, interventions were generally restricted to the classroom or consisted of forwarding the situation to the school's administration, indicating the need for a school project to fight violence and the establishment of cooperative actions among professionals. In this context, qualifying schools and teachers are essential to enable them to identify and properly intervene in bullying situations within the school environment.
