Abstract

JUAREZ, Graciela González. Citizenship and sexual diversity: Willingness of university students to coexist with lesbians. Psicol. Am. Lat. [online]. 2014, n.27, pp.93-118. ISSN 1870-350X.

The objective of this study is to analyze the willingness of higher education students from Intercultural schools and the Bajío region to coexist with lesbians, due their vulnerable status. The citizenship of students requires willingness for coexistence, which guides the acceptance or unacceptance of sexual diversity. A mixed methodology was designed using a theoretical social and methodological approach; a total of 350 higher education students participated in such methodology. Results show concepts that correspond to a reductionist and biologicist vision of sexuality in women and lesbians; three willingness levels were identified according to the stated coexistence level, which tends to decrease whenever a closer coexistence is required. It is necessary to analyze the discrimination and stigmatization phenomena in light of willingness as an indicator for sexual diversity and gender inclusion in university students, given the importance of their leadership as potential educators in their communities.

Keywords : Citizenship; discrimination; lesbian; sexual diversity; gender diversity; inclusion.
