CAMPEZATTO, Paula von Mengden; VIEIRA, Luciana Cunha  and  NUNES, Maria Lucia Tiellet. Psychotherapy and results: a global overview of scientific production 2001-2011. Contextos Clínic [online]. 2013, vol.6, n.2, pp.74-83. ISSN 1983-3482.  https://doi.org/10.4013/ctc.2013.62.01.

It is necessary to know the efficacy and the effeectiveness of psychotherapy offeered to the public for constant theoretical and technical improvement. The objective of this article was to investigate the scientific findings regarding the outcomes of psychotherapy, offeering an overview of this production. We performed a systematic search in PsycINFO, Lilacs and Indexpsi databases between 2001 and 2011 with the descriptors "Psychotherapy" and "result" or "outcome". 707 articles were found and, after refinement, 312 articles remained and were divided into three categories: empirical research, literature review and clinical material presentation. The review showed growth of world output regarding the results of psychotherapy, mainly in the form of empirical articles, characterized by methodological rigor. The main sources of the articles are the United States and Europe. Brazil stands out among Latin American countries, although the Indexpsi database does not present many publications of this nature. The largest concentration of articles focuses on the theoretical approach of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and is directed to Axis I Mental Disorders.

Keywords : psychotherapy; psychotherapy results; psychotherapy outcome.
