DECASTRO, Thiago Gomes and GOMES, William. Naturalized phenomenology: the husserlian statute and the cognitive sciences. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.1, n.2, pp.136-147. ISSN 1983-8220.
The present study is a historical and theoretical analysis of the current proposal for a naturalized phenomenology. Initially, it reviews the main concepts of Husserlian continental phenomenology, as intentionality and reduction, to describe the paths between phenomenological philosophy and the empirical investigation. Subsequently, it contrasted two movements supporting the naturalization of phenomenology: the heterophenomenology and the embodied mind. The third and last part of the study confronts the neurophenomenology, a recent front on the naturalizing project, with the current critics about the break-up represented to the Husserlian phenomenology. The authors conclude that the neurophenomenology, even though apart in some aspects of the philosophical phenomenology, presents itself as a rich field for the exploration and dialogue between self-reports (first person data) and observation (third person data) in neurocognition research.
