Abstract
GONDIM, Sônia Maria Guedes; MORAIS, Franciane Andrade de and BRANTES, Carolina dos Anjos Almeida. Socio-emotional competences: a key factor on the development of work competences. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.4, pp.394-406. ISSN 1984-6657.
In this article we argue that socio-emotional competencies have a relevant role in the development of work competencies. Competencies are not innate attributes. On the contrary, they are acquired through family, educational, and professional socialization processes. Learning has an important role in this process in which emotions are deeply involved. The first section focuses on concepts to facilitate the understanding of competence and its association with work performance and continuous learning. The second section deals with the definition and focus that is given in this article to the concept of socio-emotional competencies and its components: emotional intelligence, emotional regulation, emotional creativity, and social skills. The last section includes some suggestions about what professional trainers and teachers can do to enhance the development of socio-emotional competencies based on the ERAT cycle (experience-reflexivity-application-transference). We believe that socio-emotional competencies may help young people develop professional competencies by promoting self-confidence and creating a work environment that is more conducive to lifelong learning.
