Abstract
TAVARES, João Milton Walter and COSTA, Paulo José da. Tragedy and Psychoanalysis: an essay on the greek hero. Trivium [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.1, pp.103-115. ISSN 2176-4891. https://doi.org/10.18379/2176-4891.2018v1p.103.
In this essay, we start from Greek mythology exploring the figure of the tragic hero to psychoanalytic theory. As a support for the ideas presented here two main works were chosen, the "Iliad" by Homer and "Herakles" by Euripides. The first text is an epic, but we show that a possible tragic reading on Achilles is contained in the narrative; the second one is a classic tragedy with well-defined elements of the role of the hero and the presence of the choir. Regarding the psychoanalytic theory, it starts from myth of the hero presented by Freud in his book "Psychology of the masses and analysis of the ego".
