ABREU, Thales M. de and D'AGORD, Marta Regina de Leão. The "fantasme" in Jacques Lacan, the Untranslatable in question. Trivium [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.1, pp.101-111. ISSN 2176-4891. https://doi.org/10.18379/2176-4891.2021v1p.101.
In Brazil, the concept of phantasm in Lacan has two translations: phantom and fantasy. After analyzing the arguments that support each of the translation choices, we formulate the hypothesis that the concept of phantasm in Lacan's work and teaching represents, for the Portuguese language, an "untranslatable" term, as defined by Barbara Cassin (2018). These problems are not limited to the idiomatic question. There are some meanings that are rather impossible to achieve by translation. It is necessary to establish what origins does the concept has in the Freudian work, as well as those from which it distances itself.
