Abstract

Study in a Basic Health Unit, located in western Santa Catarina in order to analyze the perception of health professionals about mental health care, as well as the strategies they developed to cope with the demands of the field in their daily work. Having Discourse Analysis as a theoretical-methodological approach, was chosen as a procedure for the collection of data by documentary research and semi-structured interviews. As a result achieved can be seen two ways of perceiving mental health by study participants, one that is present in forms of professional work while at UBS, and another, which presents itself as a new perception of mental health and assistance in this field of work and has constituted through the same experience.
