Abstract

IAOCHITE, Roberto Tadeu. Self-efficacy beliefs and its origins. Psicol. Ensino & Form. [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.2, pp.81-102. ISSN 2177-2061.

There is a growing number of studies focusing on self-efficacy beliefs, especially within the field of education. Investigations have shown the mediational role that these beliefs have on human behavior, and have allowed a deeper understanding of how these beliefs are formed. Bandura postulated four sources of self-efficacy: mastery experiences, vicarious experiences, social persuasion, and psychophysiological states. This study aims to present Bandura's theory of sources of self-efficacy in relation to the field of teaching. Suggestions for further studies on teacher efficacy are presented.

Keywords : Self-efficacy; Sources; Teacher education; Social cognitive theory.
