Abstract

SILVA, Lorena Daniela Rodrigues da  and  SCORSOLINI-COMIN, Fabio. The transition to conjugality in catholic brides and grooms. Est. Inter. Psicol. [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.3, pp.206-227. ISSN 2236-6407.  https://doi.org/10.5433/2236-6407.2019v10n3p206.

This study aimed to understand the impact of the Catholic Church marital set up courses in the conjugality of Catholic brides and grooms. Eighteen engaged people that concluded in less than five months a marital preparation course, ministered in country town parishes in the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo, were interviewed. An interview script was used and content analysis was employed. Results pointed to a more objective characterization of marriage, constituting a moment of transition and faith reassurance. Despite Catholicism changes concerning sexuality, for example, it was noted that those couples still keep traditional values in terms of familiar constitution and the unequivocal association between parenthood and union. Marital courses can provide room to boost important reflections on the transitional process to marriage, which could be better understood from upcoming studies of the theme.

Keywords : marriage; marital relations; Catholicism.
