Abstract

FONTENELE, Thalita Castello Branco; SOUZA, Leonardo Barros de  and  LIMA, Maria Celina Peixoto. The segregation in Lacan fifty years later. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2018, vol.30, n.3, pp.493-505. ISSN 0103-5665.  https://doi.org/10.33208/PC1980-5438v0030n03A05.

In 2017 it has been fifty years since Lacan mentioned the notion of segregation for the first time in his teaching. It is an important theme that allows us to think about the modes of operation and consequences of social practices and discourses. Based on an accurate review of Lacanian works and of some of his commentators, we aim to arrive at a definition of segregation for Lacan, demarcating its differences from the ideas of discrimination and exclusion, and putting into focus the desubjectivant effects aimed at the "figures of segregation" from the totalitarian discourse of science, which always lies at the margins of its practice. We conclude that segregation can be interpreted as a central question in the crisis of modern, scientific civilization, which reveals and stresses the malaise inherent in itself; hence the importance of discussing it from what psychoanalysis proposes, since, although born from such a civilization, psychoanalysis never intended to suppress the malaise, but to subvert its effects.

Keywords : segregation; psychoanalysis; Lacan.
