Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the instrument of interconsultation of elderly patients hospitalized in the medical clinic of a university hospital, to identify the main reasons for requesting psychological interconsultation and to verify the answers given by the hospital psychologist. We used a qualitative methodology with documentary analysis. The results indicated that pulmonology and propaedeutics were the medical specialties that most requested psychological interconsultation. As referral reasons, the depressed mood was predominant. Regarding the therapeutic conducts performed by the psychologists, it was identified the accomplishment of support psychotherapeutic interventions, active listening, follow-up care, orientation, suggestions, psychoeducation, contact with the team, and psychological interview. In sum, the data from this study reinforce the complexity of the interconsultation, which is an instrument of interdisciplinary communication and understanding of patient demand.
