Abstract

This paper seeks to present and discuss some of the arguments, overlaps, contrapositions and gaps that were part of the academic debate about the insertion of Psychology in the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS) between 2005 and 2015. To achieve this goal, a literature review was carried out, focusing on the ways in which scientific articles deal with the "role" of Psychology in the Social Assistance policy, as well as on what psychologists do (or should do) on it. From the analysis of 38 scientific articles, it was possible to conclude that, by 2015, the field of study on the insertion of Psychology in SUAS had already surpassed a first descriptive phase. After all, the texts were already in dialogue with the existing literature, making oppositions of ideas and drawing a broader reading. It was also possible to conclude that this field of study is not homogeneous, but full of controversies and disputes.
