Freud’s atheism, materialism and criticism of religion. The importance of these ideas to understand key concepts as: instinct, infantile sexuality, ego ideal and repression. The psychoanalytical method as extension of socratical maieutics, opposite to dogma and sacred text. The method as based on an atheist ethic: lack, finitude and difference. Pscyhoanalysis and the symbolical, religion and the imaginary. Religious uses of hypnosis and ego ideal.
