The author revises the concept of drive and repetition compulsion and examines them from meta-psychological, clinical and institutional points of views. He stresses in these three realms the contrast between the predominance of a monotonous and compulsory repetition and renewing and creative movements that can contribute to the vitality of psychoanalysis.
